Club career

Asare began his career at the Cornerstones and in 1992, at the age of 18, he was sold to the Belgian top club Anderlecht . He arrived at the club with his compatriot Yau Preko , where he met another Ghanaian footballer, Nii Lampti . But unlike them, it was difficult for Asara to get a place in the base on the position of the right-back, he played very rarely. For five years in “Anderlecht” he played only 14 matches with the first team [2] . The team won three consecutive league titles during this period, but it basically just replaced.

In 1997, he left the club and joined Circle Brugge from the Second Division. His first season at the club went pretty well. Asare was elected the player of the year according to the club’s fans in the traditional poll “Pop Poll d'Echte” [3] . But the next season he played worse and lost his place at the heart of the team. He then decided to go to Greece and joined the Nausa from the Second Division. But again, he often remained on the reservist bench and left the club after two seasons [4] .

In 2001, Isaac Asare was without a club. For several weeks, to keep fit, he played for the Dutch amateur club, Volksfrind, and then moved to Dessel Sport from the Belgian Second Division. After two seasons at the club, he joined the regional league team, Lenteson Beers. In 2005, he announced the end of his football career. A year later, since he had lived in Belgium for a long time, he made a request and received Belgian citizenship.

International Career

Isaac Asare represented Ghana at the international level in the youth, youth and, finally, the main team, for which he played five qualifying matches for the 1994 and 1998 World Cup .

At 17, he took part in the 1989 World Youth Championships in Scotland , where Ghana did not leave the group; and at the 1991 World Cup in Italy , where he won the tournament by defeating Spain in the final. The following year he participated in the Barcelona Olympics [5] . Ghana took off in the semifinals, losing to Spain, and then won the bronze medal, beating Australia [6] . Asare scored the only goal in the match for third place.

In 1993, he joined the Ghana U-20 team to qualify for the World Cup in this category. Many future international football stars played for Ghana: Samuel Kuffour , Emmanuel Dua and Augustine Akhinful . Asare scored a goal in the quarterfinals against Russia . Ghana managed to reach the final of the tournament, but the team lost to Brazil [6] .

In 1994, he was called up to the first team. Since he had no playing practice at Anderlecht, he lost his place in the national team, and until 1996 played only five matches [6] .
