Production
In the summer of 2013, it was announced that Lifetime had acquired a script for a pilot episode created by Marty Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, which in turn is based on an award-winning short film [6] . Ashley Williams , Frances Conroy and Anna Camp starred in the film, and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro acted as director and screenwriter. The idea was to demonstrate the backstage of a bachelor reality show where reality merges with the show. The project was interested in several other television networks before Lifetime bought it [6] .
Casting for the main roles began in September 2013. On September 20, it was announced that Shiri Appleby would play a lead role in the pilot episode, a young collaborator whose task was to manipulate the relationships between the participants of the reality show [7] . A week later, Freddie Stroma got the role of a bachelor, for which women fight in the show [8] . Following Josh Kelly got the role of the operator on the show and part-time former lover character Appleby [9] . On October 22, Francia Rice signed up to play a lesbian producer, and Brenda Wool is one of the participants in the show [10] . On November 4, Megin Price was invited to the key role of the show’s overbearing executive producer, another producer Brian Butt, and Natalie Kelly and Joanna Braddy of the show [11] . On November 7, Ashley Scott joined the pilot as a middle-aged single mother [12] , and on November 18, Bonita Friderisi became the final addition to the role of a psychologist [13] .
On February 6, 2014, Lifetime approved the pilot and ordered the shooting of the first season, which will consist of ten episodes [1] [14] [15] [16] . In June, when filming for the following episodes began, Constance Zimmer replaced Megin Price as an executive producer [17] . July 22, Craig Birko joined the series as the creator of the show [18] . In early August, Jay Ar Bourne and Siwon Williams joined the show in supporting roles. [19]
