List of countries without armed forces

Countries and states without armed forces are blue .

List of countries without armed forces - a list of countries and states that do not have armed forces (land, sea, air, and so on) (AF), to protect external borders .

Independent states and countries without armed forces are included in this list. Often, however, their independence is very formal. At the same time, usually in such countries there are police or other paramilitary organizations that carry out part of the functions of the Armed Forces.

Almost always, they have an agreement with another country about their defense . So, for example, the Vatican is guarded by the infantry cohort of the Swiss Holy Guard of the Pope , while Nauru , which does not have its own armed forces, has such an agreement with Australia , and Japan completely abandoned its own armed forces in exchange for the protection , protectorate and defense of the armed forces and the US government.

In Iceland and Monaco there is no armed forces in the classical sense, but special militarized structures operate [1] [2] [3] .
