Theater History
The Belarusian theater "Lyalka" was created in 1985 as a puppet troupe at the Yakub Kolas Drama Theater .
The first performance ("Dzed i Zhorak" based on the play by V. Volsky) was played on April 20, 1986. This day is traditionally celebrated as the birthday of the Belarusian theater "Lyalka".
Since 1989, the artists at the Lyalka Theater have been Alexander Sidorov (chief artist) and Anna Sidorova (production designer).
In 1990, the puppet collective, having a permanent repertoire, stood out in a separate theater with a building in the city center.
In 2000, the staff of the Lyalka Theater was awarded the title of Honored Collective of the Republic of Belarus.

This building was built as a private manor house in the style of classicism and is under state protection as a monument of the history and culture of the city of the XIX - n. XX century.
The building at the beginning of the 20th century was planned to be used for the Commercial School. However, the First World War began and a hospital for the wounded was placed in it.
After the October Revolution, the Council of Workers and Deputies was located in the building and the first Bolshevik conference was held in Vitebsk.
Later, the Jewish Pedagogical College operated here, after the liquidation of which in 1937 the building was transferred to the Vitebsk Pedagogical Institute.
After World War II, this building was occupied by the city party committee.

Exposition
