Biography

Moroni Swain was born to Robert Henry Swain and Mary Ingeborg Jensen in Salt Lake City , Utah. He performed in vaudeville before starring in silent films at the Keystone Studios , led by Mac Sennet . At this film studio, paired with actor Chester Conklin, he starred in a number of comedy films. With Swain as Ambrose and Conklin as the big mustached walrus, several films were released, including The Battle of Ambrose and Walrus and Love, Speed ​​and Thrills in 1915. In addition to these comedies, this couple appeared in several other films, twenty-six together, as well as separately in the films Mabel Normand , Roscoe Arbuckle and Charlie Chaplin . Later he played the role of Ambrose also in the films of the film company L-KO Kompany , into which he moved.

Swain worked with Charlie Chaplin at Keystone and continued to work with him at First National Pictures in 1921, appearing in the films Holiday Class , Pay Day , and Pilgrim . He was also remembered for his role as Big Jim in the 1925 film Gold Rush , United Artists , starring Charlie Chaplin.

Swain died in Tacoma, Washington in 1935. For his great contribution to the film industry, he received a star on 1,500 Vine Street on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
