Miroslav Jovanovic ( May 1, 1962 , Belgrade - January 8, 2014 , Baina Bashta ) - Serbian historian, professor of the Department of History of the Philosophical (General Humanitarian) Faculty of the University of Belgrade. A specialist in the history of the Balkans and Russia, an outstanding researcher in the history of Russian emigration of the 20th century.

Education and academic career
He graduated from primary and secondary school in Belgrade. He was educated by the historian at the Department of History of the Philosophical (General Humanities) Faculty of the University of Belgrade, where he received the degrees of candidate and doctor of historical sciences and the title of professor. Under the scientific supervision of prof. Doctor of History A. Mitrovich in 1993 defended his thesis on the topic “Arrival of Russian refugees in the Kingdom of the Union of Artists of 1919-1924”, and in 2001 he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Russian Emigration to the Balkans 1920-1940” [1] .
Since 1989, he worked at the Department of History of the Philosophical (General Humanities Faculty) of the University of Belgrade. He taught special courses at universities in other countries: in Russia (Faculty of History, Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov, MGIMO (U)), Bulgaria (Faculty of History, Sofia State University), in Republika Srpska and Germany [1] .
Scientific activity
The main areas of scientific interest of Professor Jovanovic lay in recent history. First of all, it was a study of the history of Russian emigration in the first half of the 20th century, work on the history of Russia (USSR) and the history of the Balkans. Miroslav Jovanovic was also involved in the methodology and theory of historical science. It is precisely for these reasons that his works on the history of Serbian historiography were created, as well as works affecting the social and cultural history of the Serbian people in the 19th and 20th centuries [1] .
As a coordinator and leader, he participated in several international projects: Repräsentationen des sozialistischen Jugoslawien im Umbruch (2012-2013), History and History Teaching in Southeast Europe (2000-2002), Moscow and Serbia: Belgrade and Russia - five centuries of history (2007— 2014), Russian politics in the Balkans and in Serbia (Yugoslavia) (2011-2014). He was the editor and editorial board of foreign and domestic magazines and publications: “Russian Digest: Studies on the History of Russia”, Moscow; “Godishak for Društvenu History”, Belgrade; “The collection of the Parliament of the People's Museum”, Čačak; Serbica and Rossica series, Society for Social History, Belgrade and the Historical Thought series, Serbian Literary Community, Belgrade. Miroslav Jovanovic founded the Center for Contemporary History of the Balkans (2006) and the Center for the Study of Russia at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade (2010) [1] .
Miroslav Jovanovic was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Archive of Serbia and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Contemporary History of Serbia. In Andrichgrad, Miroslav Jovanovic was the director of the History Department of the I. Andrich Institute and the president of the International Scientific Committee to Perpetuate the 100th Anniversary of the First World War [2]
In 2012, Miroslav Jovanovic received the Belgrade City Award for Social Sciences and Humanities for his work “Serbs and Russians. 12-21 century (history of relationships). ”
