Rüstəm Fəzail oğlu Orucov [1] ; born October 4, 1991 , Ust-Ilimsk , Irkutsk Region ) - Azerbaijani judo player , performing in the weight category up to 73 kg, silver medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games and World Championships 2017. European champion (2016), Grand Prix winner (2013) and Grand Slam tournament (2013), 2011 European Cup silver medalist. Represented Azerbaijan at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen and at the 2016 Summer Olympics , the bronze medalist of the World Cup and the silver medalist of the European Cup 2011. Represented Azerbaijan at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen and at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . Bronze medalist of the championship of Azerbaijan 2013 [2] . In the world rankings for May 2016 - the 2nd [3] .

Biography

Rustam Orudzhev was born on October 4, 1991 in Russia , in the city of Ust-Ilimsk, Irkutsk Region. From the age of seven he began to practice judo. Up to sixteen years he lived in the Irkutsk region. He played at various junior competitions. After coming of age, he moved to Baku , where he began to study at the Attila club. At the junior level, he won the Eurasian Championship, but at the youth level, he failed to win the championship of the continent. Later, Orujov moved to the adult level, where he initially performed in weight up to 66 kg. The first successes at the adult level came after Rustam Orujov began to fight in the category up to 73 kg [4] .

In June 2011, at the European Cup in the Slovenian city of Cele Orujov took second place, in October of the same year at the World Cup in Baku, where Orujov first began to compete in weight up to 73 kg [4] , the third. In February 2012, Orujov became the fifth at the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf [4] . So the tournaments that allowed to gain points for obtaining an Olympic license ended, and Orujov managed to get through to the Olympics only thanks to the continental quota of the European Judo Union. In May 2012, at the Baku Grand Prix, Orujov took the first place.

At the London Olympics, Orujov in the 1/16 finals won a victory against Gideon van Ziel from South Africa , but lost to the future champion of these games Mansur Isaev from Russia and finished the performance.

In 2013 , when Rustam Orujev was just returned from the army, he performed at the Samsun Grand Prix, where he was defeated ..

But, in May 2013, Orudzhev managed to become the winner of the Grand Slam tournament held in Baku [5] . And in 2014, at the next Grand Prix tournament in Samsun, Orujov won a silver medal [6] .

In 2015, at the Grand Prix in Georgia, Orujov won the gold medal [7] . In 2016 he became the champion of Europe . Represented Azerbaijan at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , where he won a silver medal in judo in weight up to 73 kg. On September 1, by the decree of the President of Azerbaijan, he was awarded the Order " For Service to the Fatherland of the III Degree " [8] .

In 2017, he became the silver medalist of the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku, where in the final he lost to his compatriot Hidayat Heydarov [9] .

At the 2017 World Championships, Orujov managed to reach the final, where, losing to Japanese Soychi Hashimoto, he won a silver medal [10] .

At the European Games in 2019, he took the silver medal, losing only in the final to the Swede Tommi Macias . In addition, Orujovu was also awarded the silver medal at the European Championship [11] , since this was the status of judo competitions at the European Games in Minsk [12] .
