Sports career
David Brought began to play tennis at the age of seven. His first partner and coach was his father, Jiri - a player in the Czechoslovak Major League tennis and the second - in hockey. At the age of 14, David moved to Germany, where he soon received citizenship [1] , but during his career he often performed in tandem with former compatriots.
Having started performing in professional tournaments at the end of 1990, in February 1992, Brought already won his first title in tournaments of the ATP tour , having won in Rotterdam in a pair with Mark-Kevin Gölner . By the end of the year, they won another ATP tournament, and at the French Open in 1993 they reached the final, defeating Patrick Mackinaw and Jonathan Stark , then the third pair of the tournament, Mark Kratzman - Wally Mazur and finally the first seeded Mark Woodford and Todd Woodbridge . In the final, however, they were defeated by the same sowing pair - brothers Luke and Murphy Jensen [2] .
Although Brought won his first ATP Challenger class tournaments in the same 1993, until 1995 his main successes were still in doubles, where he added another two, as well as several defeats in the finals, to two 1992 titles. In 1995, he finally made it to the finals of the APR tournament in Newport in singles and won immediately, and at the end of 1996 he added a second to this victory - in Ostrava. In the doubles this year, his main achievement was the bronze medal of the Atlanta Olympics , won with his old partner, Mark-Kevin Göllner, in the match against third-seeded Paul Harkhuis and Jakko Elting . In 1996, Brought also made his debut as a member of the German national team in the Davis Cup , and in 1998 he managed to win the world team team held in Dusseldorf with the German national team .
At the end of 1999, Brought underwent an Achilles tendon operation [1] and began the next season uncertainly, losing one match after another in the single rating and falling to 130th place in the APR rating , and almost did not play in pairs (the tournament won at the beginning of the year Copenhagen was one of the few exceptions). In June, however, he made a sensation at the APR tournament in Hull , where he won his third career title in singles, defeating the ninth racket of the world ( Nicolas Lapentti ) and then the fifth ( Evgeni Kafelnikov ). Immediately after that, he reached the fourth round at Wimbledon , where he was stopped only by the first world racket Andre Agassi , and towards the end of the season made his way to the Kremlin Cup final in Moscow after defeating the second world racket by Marat Safin . In the spring of next year, he rose in ranking to 28th place - the highest in his solo career. In parallel with success in singles, Brought also successfully performed in pairs, having won the finals three times in the second half of 2000 (one victory), and in 2001 reached the finals of the second Grand Slam tournament in his career (now at the Australian Open with Byron Black from Zimbabwe) and the first ATP tournament of the highest category in his career (in Cincinnati). A week after the final in Cincinnati with Martin Damm, Brought won the same ATP Gold tournament in Washington with him, having reached the 12th position in the ATP doubles rating and finished the season in 18th place.
He brought his last title in ATP tournaments in the summer of 2002 in Hull with the Czech David Rickle - this was his tenth doubles victory and the thirteenth in total. He played for the German national team until 2003, winning a total of four out of ten of his singles matches and seven out of twelve in doubles. In fact, having completed his professional career at the end of the same year, he spent his last match in May 2004 in Prague.
By the end of his playing career, Brought started working as a coach. In this capacity, he collaborated with the Sparta club in Prague and coached the Czech player Robin Vika and Lukasz Dlouga , and also worked for a short time with the international pair Lukasz Kubot - Oliver Marah [3] .
