Gyeongpo Ice Hall is designed for 12 thousand spectators [1] . By architecture, the Palace resembles an ice block. The color of the dome cover is pearl white and transparent gray. The estimated cost of building the ice palace is 85 million US dollars. The stadium is located in Gangneung Olympic Park near six other facilities for the Games in Korea [1] . This stadium was the first commissioned building among those built for the Olympics [1] .

Competition

Test

The first test competition in figure skating was the championship of South Korea in January 2017. The first international competition was held a month after the national championship - on February 14. It was the championship of the four continents in figure skating [2] , which was attended by many famous athletes [3] , including Olympic champion Sochi Yuzuru Hanyu and three-time world champion Patrick Chan .

Then the arena “switched” to the short track test competitions that took place in April 2017 .

During the Olympic Games

Figure skating competitions began with a team tournament, which started a few hours before the opening ceremony [4] . The Canadian national team won gold medals, the silver medal went to the Olympic athletes from Russia , the American figure skaters became bronze medalists. Then medals were also won in individual championships.

Between the performances of the skaters, short track competitions were held. Moreover, on February 17 and 20, competitions were held in two ways at once: in the morning the skaters (men and dancers respectively) won the medals, and in the evening session the short track was set.

Post-Olympic use

After the Games, the arena will be the national training center of the NOC of the Republic of Kazakhstan .
