Sokolai, Sandor

Sandor Sokolai ( Hungarian. Szokolay Sándor , March 30, 1931 , Kunagota - December 8, 2013, Sopron , Hungary ) - Hungarian composer , professor of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest . Honored Artist of the Hungarian People's Republic (1976), winner of the Erkel Prize (1960, 1965) Koshut Prize (1966) [1] .

Biography

Born in a Lutheran family. He studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music with Ferenc Szabo and Ferenc Farkash . From 1961 to 1957 he worked in the music editor of the Hungarian radio . Since 1959 he taught at the Franz Liszt Academy. In 1994, he retired and moved to Sopron, where he lived and worked until the end of his life.

He won recognition with the opera “Bloody Wedding” on the tragedy of Garcia Lorca , two large oratorios (“Fiery March” to verses by Adre Adi and “The Walk of Istar to Hell” to verses by Sandor Vörös ). Sokolai is the author of several operas, ballets, oratorios, concerts, symphonic, choral, chamber and piano works [2] . He wrote music for films (" Alba Regia ", (1961))
