Biography
Prior to joining politics, Paddy Power worked as a schoolteacher [2] . In 1969, he was elected to the Irish House of Representatives by Fianna File [3] .
From December 12, 1979 to June 30, 1981, Power was Minister of Fisheries and Forestry, and from March 9 to December 14, 1982 - Minister of Defense [1] . In October 1982, after the resignation of , who decided to fight for the leadership of the party, he briefly served as minister of industry, commerce and tourism. From 1977 to 1979, Power was also a member of the European Parliament [2] [3] .
Paddy Power left politics after the 1989 elections. His son, , was also a member of the House of Representatives and the Minister of State. [2] [3] The other son, , was a Green Party member of the Kildare County Council [2] [3] .
Paddy Power died on August 14, 2013 in his house in the village of Kara [2] [4] .
