Sergey Nikolaevich Davidenkov ( 1880 - 1961 ) - Soviet medical scientist, full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1945). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1934).

The founder of clinical neurogenetics and the author of this term. The organizer of the first in the world medical genetic consultation (Moscow, 1920 and Leningrad, 1934). He proposed the classification of hereditary diseases of the nervous system, which is still used today.

He was familiar with many geneticists and neurologists of the world. Repeatedly traveled on scientific trips to France, the UK, USA. He actively collaborated with academician I.P. Pavlov and his laboratory.

Biography

Born on August 25 [ September 6 ], 1880 in Riga, in a family of teachers.

In 1904 he graduated from Moscow University , after which he practiced in psychiatric hospitals of the Moscow and Kharkiv provinces. Then he worked in various educational institutions of Kharkov , Baku , Moscow .

In 1912 he was elected Professor of the Department of Nervous and Mental Diseases of the Kharkov Women's Medical Institute . Davidenkov did not leave his scientific activities during the Civil War , when he collected a lot of material on hereditary diseases. In 1920-1925, Davidenkov was the head of the department of nervous diseases (at the same time the dean , then the rector ) of Baku University . Since 1925 he headed the nerve department of the Institute of Occupational Diseases. W.A. Butt.

From 1932 he taught at the Leningrad Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education , since 1935 - Professor; until the end of his life he headed the department of nervous diseases.

During the Great Patriotic War, Daviddenkov, in the rank of colonel of medical service, worked as a military doctor- consultant in hospitals, was the chief neuropathologist of the Leningrad Front .
In besieged Leningrad, he wrote the book “Evolutionary-Genetic Problems in Neuropathology,” in which he deeply developed a number of issues of human evolution (published in 1947 ). But after genetics was declared a “metaphysical direction in biology” at the extended meeting of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in August 1948 , further research in this area was difficult.

He died on July 2, 1961 . He was buried at the Theological Cemetery in Leningrad.

Already after his death in 1963, the State Publishing House of Medical Literature in Leningrad published a book, Neuroses , in which S.N. Davidenkov. detailed the problem of neurotic disorders.

Awards

Memory

  • In 1982, at the suggestion of the USSR Ministry of Health, the SN Prize was established. Davidenko, awarded by the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR for the best scientific work in the field of medical genetics [2] .
  • In 2015, the Russian Academy of Sciences established an award for outstanding work in the field of medical genetics, named after the founder of clinical neurogenetics and the author of this term, S. N. Davidenkova [3] .
