Life and work
Perhaps he studied at the University of Paris . From 1214 - rector ( prior ) of the monastery in Vic-sur-En (Picardy), from 1233 - rector of the Abbey of St. Medard in Soissons [4] . He is the author of the miracles ' poetic collection “Miracles of the Mother of God” (1214–33), containing musical elements [5] . He went down in history as the author of “spiritual” ( paraliturgical ) songs for the glory of the Virgin on a non- Latin basis (in French), for the music of which he used other people's (according to the counterfeiting principle) and his own secular melodies.
In his stories, important not only for the history of literature, but also for studying the life of the era, there are many episodes that can outrage Orthodox Christians: for example, the story of how the Mother of God breast-fed a sick monk; as a thief, who used to invoke the name of the Virgin every time before work, we have been supporting her white hands on the gallows for three days; how the Mother of God for many years served as a nun who fled from the monastery to surrender to carnal pleasures and others [3] .
Among the most famous works of Gauthier (more than 20 in total) are the songs “Amours dont sui espris” [6] (counterfeiting of the song by Blondel de Nel ), “Entendez tuit ensemble” [7] (counterfeiting of the Perotinov conduct “Beata viscera”), “My Viela ”(“ Ma viele ”; counterfeiting of the anonymous conduct“ O Maria, o felix puerpera ”), le “ Roine celestre ”(in other spelling:“ Royne celestre ”) [8] . The atypical form of the latter is that the music of each of the three stanzas (each of which breaks up into 4 different sections of music) is the same (typical for le is through melodic development). A rare example of counterfeiting is Gauthier's one-voice song “Hui matin, a l'ajournée” [9] , the prototype of which was the anonymous three-part motet Ars antiqua “Hier matin, a l'enjournée”.
