Biography

In the years 1848-1850. studied at the Conservatory of Music in Leipzig with M. Hauptmann (counterpoint), I. Mosheles (piano) and J. Ritz (composition), and until 1852, privately with M. Hauptmann and J. Ritz. In the 1850s he taught piano in Stockholm; in 1858-1861, 1868-1870, 1872-1875 and 1880-1882. taught at the Royal Music Conservatory (since 1861 - professor of composition). At the same time in 1859-1879. - Conductor of the Stockholm Orchestra.

In 1860, he co-founded the New Philharmonic Society ( Swede. Nya harmoniska sällskapet ) and headed it until 1878. In 1880 he founded the Music Society. He published the "Journal of Theater and Music."

Wife - Wilma Neruda-Norman (nee German: Wilhelmina Maria Franziska Neruda , 1839-1911) - violinist ; sons:

  • Felix ( Swede. Felix Wilhelm Norman-Neruda ; 1866 -?).

The author of numerous works for voice and orchestra, as well as 11 collections of Swedish songs. He also owns 4 symphonies, overtures, and a piano concerto; chamber, piano and vocal works; music for performances.
