Biography
Born on August 23, 1859 in the family of the Polish writer Vaclav Szymanowski . From 1875 to 1879 he studied sculpture in the class of Ciprian Godebsky , studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts Parisian art school. From 1880 to 1882 he studied in Munich. At the same time he collaborated with the artist Stanislav Grokholsky . In 1889 he received an award for the painting "Kłótnia Hucułów" at the Paris World's Fair. Since 1895 he began to engage in sculpture. Until 1905 he lived in Paris.
He was married to a US citizen Gabriele Turner. He was the father of Polish politician and scholar Vaclav Szymanowski .
He died on September 22, 1930 in Warsaw and was buried in the Rakovitsky cemetery in Krakow .
Creativity
He was the author of numerous sculptural tombstones, including his father at the Powzki Cemetery in Warsaw. He created monuments, including the Warsaw monument to Frederic Chopin .
In 1984, a monument to Julius Slovacki was erected in Wroclaw, which was created by Andrzej Lentowski on the basis of a half-meter sculpture of Vaclav Szymanowski, which was made by him in 1905.
One of the unrealized projects of Vaclav Szymanowski was the monumental sculptural composition “Campaign to the Wawel”, which was planned to be placed near the Wawel hospital . This composition consisted of 52 figures representing Polish kings and other significant public figures. Currently, the Wawel Campaign model is on display at the Krakow National Museum .
There is a monument to Arthur Grotter by Wenceslas Szymanowski on the Cracow Plantes .
