Women's alpine skiing competitions at the 2014 Winter Olympics were held on February 21 . The venue was the ski resort of Rosa Khutor . The first attempt began at 16:45 local time ( UTC + 4 ), and the second started at 20:15. 88 athletes from 50 countries will take part in women's slalom. The 2010 champion in this discipline was the German alpine skier Maria Höfl-Riesch (this time she took fourth place).

Gold was won by 18-year-old American Michaela Shiffrin . She became the youngest ever Olympic champion in slalom. The last time the Americans won the slalom at the Olympic Games in 1972.

Austrian Marlies Schild won her third consecutive Olympic award in slalom, not a single skier had succeeded before. Schild showed the best time in the second race, but Schiffrin had a margin of 1.34 seconds after the first, so as not to let the Austrian get ahead of herself.

The bronze medal went to 27-year-old Austrian Catherine Zettel , who won her first Olympic award in her career. Zettel was only seventh after the first race, but the second time (after Schild) in the second race allowed her to become the third in the end.
