The design was designed by architects Philip Johnson , and engineer Lev Tsetlin [1] . In particular, Tsetlin developed the design of the elliptical enclosure of the pavilion, called the "Tent of Tomorrow" ( Eng. Tent of Tomorrow ). Its roof was made of plexiglass panels , which were attached to cables stretched between sixteen 31-meter reinforced concrete columns [2] . At the time of the opening of the pavilion, it was the world's highest suspended roof. Its total weight was 2000 tons [3] .
Near the "Tent" are three towers 18, 46 and 69 meters high. In the lower two towers during the World Exhibition there were cafeterias , and on the upper there was a viewing platform. They could be reached with the Sky Streak capsule elevator attached to the highest (western) tower [4] .
The pavilion exhibited New York State achievements. So, it presented an 8-meter layout of a hydroelectric power station on the St. Lawrence River and a floor map of the state with an area of about 840 m², made by Texaco . In addition, the “Theater” complex was located in the pavilion, in which, among others, the works of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein were exhibited. In total, 6 million people visited the pavilion during the exhibition [5] .
The towers of the pavilion became one of the key places in the film " People in Black " in 1997. One of the sites is presented in it as an alien ship [6] [7] .
In 2009, the pavilion was included in the US National Register of Historic Places [8] . However, as of 2013-2014, he was in a deplorable state [2] [9] [10] .
