Biography
Henry Sehudo was born into a large and poor Mexican family in California. His father almost did not take part in the upbringing, since he was serving a sentence. In 1991, he moved with his mother to Las Cruces , then moved from state to state with his family until the family finally settled in Phoenix . Under the influence of his elder brother, Angel (a four-time state champion among schoolchildren) began to engage in wrestling. The brothers' successes brought them to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where they lived and received a scholarship. Thus, Henry Sehudo missed the almost indispensable stage of college sports in the United States.
In 2005, he performed at the World Junior Championships and remained fifth. In 2006, he won the Pan American Championship for Adults, and won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships. In 2006, he also became the champion of the USA and received the title β ASICS - National Fighter of the Year among Studentsβ. In 2007, he became the bronze medalist of the World Cup, confirmed the title of Pan American Champion and US Champion, was the fifth at the international tournament in Kiev, the second at the Takhti Cup and the third at the Ivan Yarygin memorial. At the same time, at the World Cup was only 31st. In 2008, he became the Olympic champion.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he fought in the category of up to 55 kilograms ( featherweight ). The tournament was attended by 19 people. The tournament was held according to the system with elimination after the defeat with comforting fights. The wrestlers by lot were divided into two groups, in the first group there were eight athletes who started the fight from the 1/8 finals, in the second group there were eleven, of which five wrestlers started the fight from the 1/8 finals, and six wrestlers held qualifying meetings for the right to get into 1/8 finals. Those athletes who did not lose a single fight went to the finals, where they played the first and second places. The wrestlers who lost to the finalists began to fight in the consolation tournament, according to the results of which two bronze medalists were determined, one in each group. In other words, the wrestler, having lost the fight in any round of the tournament, did not immediately drop out, but expected the results of the meeting of his winner in the next round. For example, the wrestler lost in 1/8, his winner reached the quarter-finals. If his winner in the quarter finals lost, then the wrestler dropped out immediately, and his winner went to a comforting tournament. If his winner in the quarter finals won again, then the wrestler met in a comforting meeting with the loser in the quarter finals and so on. The fight by the rules consisted of three periods of two minutes; the winner in two periods won the meeting. Henry Sehudo won all the meetings and became the champion of the Olympic Games.
