Golitsyn ( lat. Golitsyn ) - a large young impact crater in the southern hemisphere of the far side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the Russian physicist Boris Borisovich Golitsyn (1862–1916) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970. The formation of the crater dates back to the late Imperial period [1] .

Crater Description
The crater lies in the southwestern region of the Ruk Mountains. The nearest neighbors of the crater are the Freixell crater in the northeast, as well as the Shuleikin crater in the east-southeast. In the northeast of the crater is the Vostochnoe Sea , in the east - Pettita furrows , in the southeast - Fokas furrows [2] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 35.5 km [3] , depth 2.1 km [1] .
The crater has a polygonal shape with a clearly defined edge of the shaft, the north-western part of the shaft is blocked by a small crater. The inner slope of the shaft has a terrace-like structure, traces of collapse with scree at the foot. The average height of the crater shaft above the surrounding area is 990 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 900 km³ [1] . The bottom of the crater bowl is uneven. There is a central peak with an elevation of about 700 m [1] .
