Fan Changsheng ( Chinese trad. 范長生 , Pinyin : Fàn Chángshēng ) is a Taoist hermit who became the main associate of the founding of the Cheng State in the period of sixteen barbarian states in China . He led the Taoist community of more than 1,000 families in the area of Mount Qingchenshan in Sichuan . During a terrible famine, Fan Changsheng supplied Li Xiong’s army with food from his community. With his help, Li Xiong defeated Liu Shan’s army during the siege of Chengdu .

After the victory, Li Xiong offered throne to Phan, but he refused because he believed that the year 304 was most favorable for a family member to ascend to the throne. After Fan, Changsheng convinced Li Xiong to take the title of emperor .
Fan Changsheng was the author of Shu Tsai (蜀 才) - ten volumes of comments on the Book of Changes . He was named by descendants one of the Eight Immortals of Sichuan .
