Biography

Born on June 22, 1907 in the village of Miropol (now the Romanovsky district of the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine ) in a working class family. Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1940. He graduated from a rural school.

Since 1925, he worked at the Miropol station as a loader, weigher, and since 1936 - as a station duty officer. In 1940 he was appointed head of the Maidan-Vila station in the Shepetovsky district of the Khmelnitsky region .

After the outbreak of World War II , in September 1941, on the recommendation of the political department of the Vinnitsa Railway, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine sent him behind enemy lines to organize underground and sabotage operations.

Arriving in Miropol, V.I. Timoshchuk established contact with an underground group of Lieutenant Colonel Efim Afanasevich Starchenko. On his instructions, V. I. Timoshchuk organized a special underground group that was engaged in the collection of weapons, sabotage, distribution of leaflets and preparing people for partisan activities. In a short time, the group turned into a well-organized partisan detachment , numbering more than 350 people. This detachment subsequently entered the partisan brigade, commanded by E. A. Starchenko.

On a warm summer night of 1942, a group of guerrilla guerrillas, led by detachment commander V.I. Timoshchuk, made their way to Miropol station. There were trains with fuel and ammunition. Instantly - and railroad tanks with fuel for fascist tanks broke out.

Before the Germans recovered after the first sabotage, the invisible avengers destroyed the train with tanks. This time the explosion was so strong that the Germans could not restore movement on the Shepetovka-Kazatin railway section for three days. And the next night, in the vicinity of the Pechanovka and Polonnoe stations, compositions with ammunition and weapons were blown up.

The trains with equipment, weapons and manpower of the enemy continued to fly into the air. Then the Germans went on a provocation. Under guerrilla fire, they decided to substitute a train with Soviet prisoners of war. The Germans hoped that by blowing up this train, the partisans would incur the wrath of the civilian population.

However, this time the Germans were not lucky. The partisan detachment of V.I. Timoshchuk was informed in advance about this vile undertaking. Not far from the Pechanovka station, the train with prisoners of war was stopped, a few guards were destroyed, and prisoners of war replenished the partisan formation.

The partisan movement was expanding. V.I. Timoshchuk was appointed commander of the battalion of the First Moldavian unit. The subversive group of the detachment successfully operated not only in the direction of Kazatin, but also in the direction of Novograd-Volynsky. On account of the demolitionists there were already 37 destroyed enemy railway trains with manpower, equipment and ammunition. V. I. Timoshchuk personally participated in the destruction of 17 fascist echelons.

During the retreat of the Nazis, the detachment of V.I. Timoshchuk received a new task - to guard the bridges in Polonnoye and Miropol. And the Nazis did not manage to disable the important railway.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1944 for skillful actions, courage and courage in the fight against Nazi invaders behind enemy lines, Vasily Ivanovich Timoshchuk was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .

After the war, V.I. Timoshchuk returned to his former profession. He graduated from courses, worked as the head of the Polonnoe railway station in the Khmelnitsky region . In 1968 he retired. He died on February 23, 1970. He was buried in the city of Polonnoe.

He was awarded the orders of Lenin , the Red Banner of Labor , the "Badge of Honor", and medals.
