Opening
The discovery of the planet was announced on January 8, 2014 by a group of American scientists from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics , who were trying to find exoplanet satellites in the data of the Kepler telescope. The planet is discovered by chance in transit .
Features
A planet orbits a mother star in 23,089 days . The eccentricity of the orbit is 0.024 ± 0.03.
The radius of the planet is approximately 1.6 of the radius of the Earth . The planets KOI-314 b and KOI-314 c are in the 5: 3 orbital resonance, which allows us to estimate their mass during transit . The mass of KOI-314 c is 1.01 + 0.42 / -0.34 Earth masses [1] . If the radii of KOI-314 b and KOI-314 c are equal, then the average density of the latter is 1.31 + 0.82 / -0.54 g / cm³. KOI-314 c turned out to be an air mini- neptune with an extended atmosphere , which, according to scientists, extends to 17 + 12 / -13% of the planet’s radius. The acceleration of gravity on the planet is 3.8 + 2.0 / -1.5 m / s². The temperature of the planet is 154 ° C. According to its characteristics, the planet belongs to the class of super-earths located between gas giant planets and terrestrial planets . Scientists believe that the planet was a mini-Neptune, but due to the strong emission of the star, many gases are absorbed by the star. KOI-314 c is close in size and mass to the parameters of the Earth , but not like it. It is too hot, so not one of the known forms of life on Earth can survive in such conditions.
Parent Star
KOI-314 or Kepler-138 is a red dwarf of spectral class M0V. Its mass is estimated at 0.57 ± 0.05 of the mass of the Sun , its radius is at 0.54 ± 0.05 of the radius of the Sun , the temperature of the photosphere is approximately equal to 3870 K or 3596.85 ° C. The luminosity of KOI-314 is only 6% of the solar . The apparent magnitude is 12.9 m . The distance from the Sun is 66.5 ± 7.3 parsecs . In addition to the planet KOI-314 c, the star has another confirmed planet KOI-314 b and one unconfirmed planet KOI-314 d .
