History

York was founded in 1741 by natives of Philadelphia , and is named after the eponymous English city . At the end of the XVIII century, almost all the townspeople were of German or Irish descent.

In 1777-1778, the Second Continental Congress was hosted in York, which actually made the city the capital of the United States (the name "United States of America" ​​was first used in official documents as the name of the new state during the Congress in York).
