Biography
Friedrich Wilhelm Klatt was born on February 13, 1825 in Hamburg . From childhood, he demonstrated the ability to draw, Clatt's drawings were regularly shown at exhibitions. During the fire of Hamburg in May 1842, all of Clatt's work was destroyed. After that, Clatt began teaching at the Hamburg High School for Boys. In 1856 he got married.
Since 1854, Klatt maintained friendly relations with the botanist Johann Georg Lehmann . After Lehman's death in 1860, part of his herbarium went to Klatt (for example, a herbarium of primrose ). Clatt began to study plants of the family Asteraceae .
In 1864, Rostock University awarded Wilhelm Klatt with a Ph.D.
March 3, 1897 Friedrich Wilhelm Klatt died.
Clatt's main herbarium, comprising about 11,500 specimens, is stored at Harvard University (GH), which acquired it in 1899.
