The common royal snake [1] ( Lampropeltis getula ) is a non-toxic snake of the family of the already distinctive ( Calubridae ). It has 5 subspecies. Earlier, this species included a total of 9 subspecies, but in 2009 Lampropeltis californiae , Lampropeltis getula holbrooki , Lampropeltis getula niger , Lampropeltis getula splendida were identified as independent species.

The total length varies from 1-1.4 to 2 m. The head is triangular. The body is slim. The color is dark brown or black. 25-40 white or creamy transverse stripes, which are interconnected and resemble an elongated chain, pass along the body. The belly is dark in color with several light stripes.
He loves broad-leaved and pine forests, meadows, wetlands. Active at night. It feeds on lizards and snakes.
This is an egg laying snake. The female lays 12 to 23 eggs.
Inhabits the United States from southern New Jersey to northern Florida.
