Biography
Born February 28, 1909 in the city of Belgorod in a working class family. Russian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1938. He spent his childhood years in the village of Mikhailovka, now in the Belgorod District of the Belgorod Region . He graduated from the school of the 2nd stage in the city of Belgorod. In 1928–1930, he worked as a laborer and mechanic at the Belgorod railway depot. He graduated from the two courses of the Voronezh Veterinary Institute.
In the Red Army since 1932. In 1934 he graduated from the Ulyanovsk armored school .
Member of the fighting with the Japanese militarists on the Khalkhin Gol river from May 11 to August 20, 1939.
The commander of the 2nd company of the 1st separate tank battalion of the 11th light tank brigade, senior lieutenant Vasily Filatov distinguished himself in the fierce Bain-Tsagan battle , during which from July 3 to July 5, 1939, skillfully commanding the entrusted company, he participated in destruction of the enemy's strike force. August 20, 1939 was seriously wounded.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 17, 1939 for the skillful and courageous command of a tank company and personal heroism shown in the performance of military and international duty, Senior Lieutenant Vasily Romanovich Filatov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
In the years 1940–41, a brave tank officer studied at the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization of the Red Army. On the front in the Great Patriotic War from October 1941.
Fought on the Western, Bryansk, Stalingrad, Don and South-Western fronts . He commanded a tank battalion, was deputy commander of the 26th tank brigade, and from August 7, 1942 to February 12, 1943 commander of the 135th tank brigade . From February 1943 to September 1946 - Deputy Commander of the 7th Training Tank Brigade of the Urals Military District .
In 1947, V. R. Filatov graduated from the post-graduate courses for officers at the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Forces of the Soviet Army . He served in the Central Office of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR.
Since 1961, Colonel V. R. Filatov - retired. He lived in the hero-city of Moscow . He died on February 4, 1996. He was buried in Moscow at the Transfiguration Cemetery .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin , two Orders of the Red Banner , Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Red Star , medals, and the Mongolian Order of the Combat Red Banner .
