Novopashin, Yuri Stepanovich

In 1959 - 1964 studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University . After Moscow State University, he began to work at the Institute of Economics of the World Socialist System of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where then in 1974 - 1988 . led the department of theoretical problems of world socialism . In 1970 , at the Moscow Institute of National Economy. G. V. Plekhanova defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of philosophical sciences on the topic " Anti-Communism and European Socialist Countries (Criticism of some modern bourgeois concepts of the struggle against socialism by" peaceful means ")." ^[1] In 1986 , at the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the CPSU, he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the topic “Criticism of anti-communist concepts of the development of real socialism as a social system and world system” (specialty 09.00.02 - scientific communism). ^[2]

He worked as a teacher at the Moscow Energy Institute , the Academy of Social Sciences , and the Diplomatic Academy . From 1988 to the end of his life, he worked at the Institute of Slavic Studies and Balkan Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences . For some time he held the posts of deputy director (in 1988-1998) and head of the department. From 1996 to 2001 was the chief editor of the journal "Slavic Studies".

His main research interests were the study of socialism in European countries and the relations between the countries of Central and Southeast Europe , as well as their relations with the Soviet Union, and then with Russia. He was engaged in a study of the Eastern European revolutions of 1989 and the post-communist development of these countries.
