Confectionery “Zauner” appeared in the Pfarrgasse lane in 1832 and bears the name of the Vienna court confectioner and wine merchant Johann Zauner, who moved to Bad Ischl to serve the imperial family, spending the summer months there. A lover of sweets, Empress Sisi often visited a coffee shop.

The confectionery continued to continue to be a family business of the Zauners, which in 1927 opened the Esplanade Zauner cafe, which became a favorite meeting place for famous composers Franz Lehar , Leo Fall , singers Leo Slezak and Richard Tauber , as well as many writers. According to legend, Franz Lehar paid his bills in a coffee shop with hastily composed songs.

Shortly after the Second World War, the famous German confectioner Richard Kurt got a job at the Tsauner confectionery, who later married the adopted daughter of the Zauner. When Kurt, the patisserie gained additional fame. Working at the Zauner confectionery, Kurt creates a recipe for his famous Ishl cakes . After the death of Kurt, his wife managed the pastry shop. In 1982, she regained the name Tauner and in 1987 adopted Joseph, who also became a famous pastry chef and is engaged in teaching and working on television.
