Aja Naomi King ( born Aja Naomi King , born January 11, 1985) is an American actress best known for her role as Michaela Pratt in the ABC series Avoiding Punishment for Murder .

Life and career

King was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received a bachelor's degree in art from the University of California and graduated from Yale School of Drama , where she performed in many theater productions, and then appeared in a number of short films, which led her to roles in the television series Blue Blood and In Vision [1] .

In 2012, King received one of the central roles in The CW 's Dr. Emily Owens , which was closed after one season. After she starred in the comedy pilot Empire of Onion News [2] , and after she received praise from critics for playing the main female role in the independent film Four [3] [4] . At the beginning of 2014, she starred in the ABC series Black Box . Later, King received one of the main roles in the series Shonda Rimes " How to Avoid Punishment for Murder ", also on ABC [5] . In the wake of his success, in 2015 she received the main female role in the historical film " Birth of a Nation " based on the revolt of slaves in 1831 under the leadership of Net Turner . The film also features Nate Parker, Onjanu Ellis , Armie Hammer and Gabriel Union [6] .
