History
Under the Eastern Han Empire, Hanjia County (汉 嘉 县) was formed here, which during the Three Kingdoms was renamed Yangjia (阳 嘉 县). Under the Sui Empire, Lushan County was created.
In 1939, the province of Sikan was created, and these lands became part of it. In 1951, the Ya'an Special District (雅安 专区) was formed, to which this county was transferred. In 1955, after the liquidation of the Sikan Province, the Ya'an Special Region was transferred to Sichuan. In 1970, the Ya'an Special District was renamed the Ya'an County (雅安 地区). In 2000, by decree of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Ya'an County was transformed into an urban district.
In 2013, the county was at the epicenter of a devastating earthquake .
