Portugal takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen , Denmark . The representative was selected through a national selection consisting of the semi-finals and finals of the Festival da Canção 2014 competition organized by the Portuguese national broadcaster RTP.

Festival da Canção 2014
Festival da Canção 2014 was the 48th competition of the Portuguese national final, which selected a representative from Portugal for Eurovision 2014 . In the 2014 contest, Portugal officially confirmed their return to Eurovision after leaving the contest in 2013. RTP officially confirmed Portugal’s return to the contest on November 7, 2014. [one]
Format
The format of the competition included one semifinal which will take place on March 8, 2014 and the final on March 15, 2014, which was held at the Convento do Beato in Lisbon . Ten competing songs were presented in the semifinal, written by composers that RTP will invite to participate in the competition. Composers together with RTP simultaneously created a song and selected an artist from it for entry. All songs must be in Portuguese, however selected composers could also collaborate with foreign composers for their song. The first five songs from the semi-finals reached the final. The result in both semifinals and finals was determined solely by televoting. [2]
On January 28, 2014, RTP announced the names of ten composers who were invited to participate. Initially, Thiago Pais Diaz was among the invited composers, but Elder Godinho replaced him after he left. Guest composers are: [3] [4]

The semi-final took place on March 8, 2014. The first five songs in accordance with the decision of public televoting reached the final.
