Jamaica at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Jamaica took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics , which took place in Sochi from February 7 to 23 . After a twelve-year break for the White Games, the Jamaican bobsled team was able to qualify. The pilot was 47-year-old Winston Watt , who spoke at the games of 1994, 1998 and 2002.

In January 2014, the Jamaican bobsled team, which does not play at the World Cup, was able to qualify for the Olympics in Sochi [1] . Immediately after that, the Jamaicans, with the help of crowdfunding, began to collect the money necessary for a trip to Russia . The required amount, which included the cost of equipment, as well as to pay the fee in the United States , was 80 thousand US dollars, but in just two days, the athletes managed to raise 120 thousand dollars [2] . Part of the funds was collected in the form of donations by Dogecoin cryptocurrency [3] .

Incidents

Upon arrival in Sochi, the bobsled team lost their luggage. Later, the missing parts for the bob and other equipment were found and returned, however, Jamaican bobsledders were forced to miss the first training session [4] [5] [6] .
