Biography
Born March 18, 1972 in a Catholic family in Braslav [2] , according to other sources - in the village of Gerasimovo, Braslav district, Vitebsk region [3] .
He graduated from the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University (BSATU). In 1994 he entered the Higher Theological Seminary in Grodno , after which on May 13, 2000 he was ordained a priest [4] .
He served as vicar in the parishes of Novopolotsk and Mior , and as the rector of the parish in Beshenkovichi and Ulla .
Since 2003, he served as rector of the parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Vitebsk and headed the dean’s office of Vitebsk North [4] .
After the head of the diocese of Vitebsk, Bishop Vladislav Blin resigned for health reasons, on November 29, 2013, Pope Francis appointed Oleg Butkevich as the new bishop of Vitebsk [3] .
On January 18, 2014 in the Church of Jesus the Merciful in Vitebsk, bishop consecration took place, performed by the apostolic nuncio Claudio Gugerotti , accompanied by the archbishop of Minsk-Mogilev Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz and Bishop of Grodno Alexander Kashkevich .
On June 3, 2015, he was elected Vice-President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belarus [5] .
