Story

The story of four friends - Leo, Lenny, Luis and Kicho - living in seedy apartments in Nerrebro - a working area of Copenhagen . Lenny is a salesperson in the Kicho video rental salon, a soft and timid movie fan. He watches 10-12 films a week, walks in a torn jacket, and cannot find a topic for conversation with a girl he liked - a waitress in a small fast-food restaurant.

Leo is a typical blue collar who has become disillusioned with life. Leo's despair reaches its climax when his girlfriend Louise becomes pregnant unplanned. Spending time with her brother Louis, Leo witnesses a brutal beating and gunfight. Suddenly, a tendency to violence wakes up in him, which entails a series of the most sad events, both for Leo's relatives and for himself.

Creation

"Bleeding" is often called a film, deprived of attention [1] . The picture could not avoid comparison with the directorial debut of Refna - the crime drama " Dealer ", in which he played the same cast of actors as in "Bleeding Blood". “Dealer” was so praised by world film critics that it is now considered almost the first Danish gangster film [2] . "Bleeding" was awarded only the title of "echo" of the stylish and gloomy tone of the first tape of Refn [3] . Meanwhile, the director calls the picture his, perhaps, the most interesting work - in the sense that it was Refn's first attempt to make not a pure genre movie, but to fuse together elements of different genres [4] . The tape is characterized by parallels with other productions of Refn - a special language spoken by the characters of the “Dealer” and a certain meditative state of mind inherent in the heroes of “ Fear X” [5] . The peculiar romance of this film was developed in the neo-noir love line “ Drive ”, which Nicholas Winding's mother even called “Bleeding in Hollywood ” [4] .

Reviews

The first reviews of the film, released in 1999 , were mixed. Empire reported in the newsreel that there was very little in the film that could interest the British audience, unless the viewer was a student learning Danish [6] . The picture was noticeably warmer in the States - for example, in Variety magazine it was called a dark, brutal, emotionally catchy tragedy, proving the existence of high-quality young Danish cinema [7] . "Bleeding" brought his director the award of the International Federation of Film Presses at the festival in Sarajevo [8] . The acting ensemble and production technical staff were nominated in various categories for prizes at a number of film festivals, including the main Danish award, Bodil .
