History
It is named after a star-shaped ravine in its place where the Kovalikha River began; powerful springs in the branches of the ravine created two large ponds - Dyukov and Zvezdin. According to another version, the name is associated with the surname of the Zvezdin noblemen to whom this territory belonged. The ravine was bombarded at the end of the 19th century.
A. M. Gorky gave this description to this place:
The streets, as I used to understand it, are not; a dirty ravine spread out in front of the house; narrow dams cut it in two places. To the left, the ravine goes to the prisoners' companies, garbage from the yards is dumped into it ... to the right, at the end of the ravine, the muddy Zvezdin pits, and the center of the ravine is just against the house ...
