History
Under the Northern Zhou Empire, the Pengzhou (蓬 州) region was formed. Under the Qing Empire, from 1650 there were no districts left under its subordination, and it became a "countyless province."
When the Republic of China was formed after the Xinhai Revolution , a reform of the administrative structure was carried out, during which the provinces were abolished, and in 1913 the Pengzhou region was transformed into Peng'an County.
In 1950, the Nanchong Special Region (南充 专区) was established, and the Pen'an County became subordinate to it. In 1970, Nanchong Special District was renamed Nanchong District (南充 地区). In 1993, Nanchong County was transformed into the Nanchong City District by a decision of the State Council of the PRC.
Administrative Division
Pen'an County is divided into 15 villages and 24 volosts .
