Polistes vergnei (lat.) - a fossil species of wasps from the genus Polistes ( Polistinae ) of the family Vespidae . Found in the Paleocene sediments of Europe. France (Menat) [1] . Body length 17.0 mm; fore wing length 11.2 mm. Together with other fossil wasp species such as Palaeopolistes jattioti , Polistes industrius , Polistes signatus , Polistes kirbyanus , Polybia anglica , Polybia oblita , Polistes attavinus are the oldest paper wasps of the polistina subfamily. A typical taxon specimen ( holotype ) was lost, probably during the Second World War [1] [2] [3] .
