Biography
John Feggo, Jr. was born on October 8, 1910 in , New Jersey, into a family of Hungarian immigrants. After graduating from school, the future actor studied at Columbia University. His acting career began with the fact that Kirk Eline sang and danced in the corps de ballet, performed in vaudeville, and finally, in the 30s, took part in several Broadway productions.
In 1930, he first appeared on the screen as part of extras. In 1934, he, under the name of Jack Fago ( born Jack Fago ), received a small role in the romantic musical comedy "Private Lessons", but he began to act actively only in 1942. Kirk Elin was tall (185 cm) and a very attractive brunette, but only in 10 of 28 films in which he played for 6 years, his name was mentioned in the credits.
A turning point in his career came in 1948, when Elina was offered a role in the first film adaptation of Superman. The black and white film series consisted of 15 short episodes, their total duration was 244 minutes. The series was shown in cinemas one at a time, as a rule, before the main film was shown, and was cut off at the most interesting place. With the development of television, the genre of the movie series has become obsolete.
Superman Kirk Elina looked exactly the same as in the comics - with a chiseled face and a curl of black hair on her forehead. The series talked about Superman's arrival on Earth, about how he, under the guise of a modest mattress Clark Kent, got a job as a reporter for the Daily Planet newspaper, as he met Lois Lane. The plot revolved around the confrontation between Superman and Lady Spiderwoman supervillain. The role of Lois Lane was played by actress Noel Nill , who later played the same role in the television series “The Adventures of Superman” with George Reeves . Elina was offered the main role in the 1951 television series, but for some reason he refused.
Two years later, the second movie series, also consisting of 15 short episodes, “Atomic Man vs. Superman” was released, in which the usual villain Lex Luthor appeared.
It would seem that the role of Superman was to bring Kirk Elin to the ranks of Hollywood stars, but this did not happen. For some time he kept afloat, getting tiny roles on television, then completely disappeared, having moved somewhere to Arizona. In 1974, the actor published an autobiography, "Work for Superman."
After a ten-year hiatus, Kirk Elin briefly returned to the movies. The first thing he flashed in the revival of 'Superman', a 1978 film in which the role of Clark Kent / Superman was played by another Hollywood handsome Christopher Reeve. Kirk Elin appeared in the tiny role of Dr. Sam Lane, the father of Lois. In 1979, the actor played the old man in one of the episodes of the cult television series Star Cruiser Galaxy, in 1981 he played one of the small roles in the comedy comedy Superbman: The Other Movie. His last work was the role of Professor Machin in the horror film "Scalps" (Scalps), and after that he no longer starred.
In 1942, Kirk Elin married actress Virginia O'Brien, known not only for her beauty, but also for her impassive, calm expression and even tone of voice, which became her trademarks. She even sang with an icy expression. Virginia gave birth to her husband two daughters and a son, but nothing came of their marriage anyway, and in 1955 they divorced. For Virginia, this was the second of three marriages, but Elin never married again.
The actor died on March 14, 1999 in The Woodlands , Texas, at the age of 88.
