Biography

The son of a political figure Hristo Zankov, brother of the Bulgarian revolutionary George Zankov.

He studied painting and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence .

In 1926 he married the Russian ballerina Anna Vorobyeva.

He continued his education at the Roman Academy of Arts , which he graduated in 1927. In 1929 he trained in Paris under the guidance of the sculptor Professor E. A. Bourdelle (student of O. Rodin ).

In 1934 he returned to Bulgaria.

He worked in the field of monumental and decorative sculpture and composition.

The author of the Monument to the Liberators in Kardzhali (1939). In 1941 he participated in the decoration of the Military Academy in Sofia, created stone figures mounted on the facade of the building.

After the socialist revolution in Bulgaria participated in the implementation of monumental decoration of the capital, the author of the statue "Republic" (1946).

In the same year, he created a bronze figure of a Bulgarian soldier at a military memorial cemetery in Sofia, a number of decorative sculptures for the Sofia Theater of the People’s Army and the House of Culture of Trade Unions “George Dimitrov”.

He was a member of the creative group that won the competition for the construction of a monument to the Soviet Army in Shumen .

In 1956 he created a monument to Ivan Vazov in Sofia.

In 1957, he was one of the authors of the monument to the Soviet soldier- liberator in the Bulgarian city ​​of Plovdiv on the Bunardzhik hill ("Liberators Hill") - the famous " Alyosha ". Zankov owns the bas-relief "People Meet Soviet Warriors" on the pedestal of the monument.

Then - a monument to the fallen Russian soldiers on Mount Etropole Baba . In 1967 - a monument to Aleko Konstantinov .

Alexander Zankov is a participant in many art exhibitions and contests for the creation of monuments.

The master’s works are in art galleries and museums in Bulgaria (Sofia, Kazanlak) and abroad (Moscow), as well as decorate many public buildings and parks of the country.
