Biography

Christophe Aurel was born in the small French town of Saint-Dieu-de-Vosges on April 7, 1968. Five months after his birth, the family moved to the commune of Marin-Epanier (the modern commune of La Ten ) in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel .

Club career

Orel began his football career in 1987 at the Lausanne club, where a strong team gathered, in which Orel, Chapuisa , Hottiger , Bregui , Huber , Herr stood out, and soon made up half of the main national team [3] . Having shown his high level in the early 1990s, Orel was invited to one of the strongest clubs in Switzerland - Servette . There he was a major player for two years, in 1994 he helped the team win the Swiss championship [4] .

In the summer of 1994, after the World Cup, Orel transferred to the French club Rennes on loan. He immediately became one of the key figures and after the first season he hoped to stay in the club on an ongoing basis, but Rennes and Servette could not agree on monetary conditions. Orel nevertheless remained in France, moving to Saint-Etienne [2] . The only Swiss season at Saint-Etienne turned out to be unsuccessful - the club experienced serious financial problems and had to rely on young players, while Orel was one of the most experienced players in the club. At the end of the season, Saint-Etienne took only 19th place in the standings and left the top division of France [4] .

In 1996, Orel returned to his native Lausanne, where he again became one of the key players, and was soon appointed team captain . He spent several successful seasons with Lausanne - in 1998 and 1999 he became the owner of the Swiss Cup , in 2000 helped the club become the silver medalist of the national championship, and in the same year was recognized as the best midfielder of the championship. In 2001, Orel moved to Lucerne , where he spent the entire half season, from January 2002 until the summer of 2003, he played for the Yverdon club from the second division of Switzerland, after which he completed his professional career [4] .

Team appearances

Orel from 1991 to 1997 played for the national team of Switzerland , played 56 matches in total and scored 6 goals [5] . During the period when the Swiss team was led by the Englishman Roy Hodgson , Orel was one of its key players. He participated in both matches of the qualifying tournament for the 1994 World Cup against Italy . In an away match with the Italians, Orel marked a goal, which allowed Switzerland to draw 2: 2, and played in the main squad the entire home match, in which the Swiss won a historic victory 1-0 [3] . Orel was the main player in the national team at the 1994 World Cup , where his team reached the 1/8 finals. Christophe himself took part in all four matches of the national team in the tournament [6] .

After completing a gaming career

After the completion of his playing career, Orel worked from 2004 to 2005 at the Renna coaching staff, then returned to Switzerland and worked at the regional clubs Lausanne-Ears (2004-2005, 2008-2010), Maye (2006-2007) , Action (2007-2008), Forward Walrus (2010-2011) [7] . In 2011, Orel became the sports director of the Forward Walrus club, but on November 17, 2013, he fought with the referees at the match of his team, for which he received a year's suspension from any activity related to football [8] .

In addition to coaching, after completing a gaming career, Orel was engaged in business. He owned a company engaged in the sale of wines, but due to loss-making it was closed in 2007 [2] . Aurel also worked at the investment company Valjob [4] .
