Born March 14, 1938 in the town of Haukipudas, in the province of Oulu. From 1980 to 1983 he was an assistant professor (adjunct), and from 1983 to 2001 - a professor at the University of Helsinki (currently retired).

Scientific activity

Ussila is an authoritative and internationally renowned researcher in political history, specializing in Russian-Finnish and Soviet-Finnish relations. His work, covering the history of Finland and Russia over the past two hundred years, draws particular attention to the history of the Grand Duchy of Finland , the Soviet-Finnish “winter war” and the so-called Soviet-Finnish continuation war .
