Biography
She graduated from the Moscow State University of Press ( 2003 ) with a degree in book artist.
C 2008 Lomasko develops the genre of "graphic reporting" that existed in pre-revolutionary and Soviet Russia, but disappeared after the collapse of the USSR. It is based on the traditions of the Russian reportage pattern (blockade, concentration camp, military albums). Author of lectures and articles on reportage graphics [1] . As an artist, an activist collaborates with the media and human rights organizations. In addition, she teaches drawing to adolescents in juvenile colonies [2] .
In 2011-2012 she led the " Chronicle of Resistance " as a correspondent artist. By 2015, the project was transformed into the Chronicle of a Muddy Time.
Since 2012, Victoria Lomasko, in collaboration with the art historian Nadya Plungyan, has organized a series of exhibitions “ Feminist Pencil ”.
In 2013, the artist gets experience in the jury of the side-by-side film festival, after which she is interested in LGBT issues . As a result, a hand-drawn report about the guests and detractors of the festival itself and the 18+ graphic series (about lesbian clubs and lesbian families) appear.
Included in the top ten most authoritative cultural figures in 2013 according to the "Russian Reporter" [3] . In recent years, more often exhibited abroad than in Russia.
The best-known works are the book — the court report “Forbidden Art” (with A. Nikolayev ), a series of reports from opposition rallies “The Chronicle of Resistance” [4] , posters in defense of Pussy Riot and the report “Slaves from the Moscow“ Products ”store.
Quotes
As the curators of one of the exhibitions Lomasko N. Goncharova and A. Litvin ,
The Lomasco phenomenon is in its unusual intermediate position between the world of activist contemporary art, the culture of social comics and the seriously accepted tradition of modernist graphics. The artist is interested in current events of the day: social, political processes, chamber stories of the “little man”, old age, mental hospitals and other topics actively driven out of public consciousness [5] .
According to the critic Igor Gulin, “The Chronicle of Resistance“ by Victoria Lomasko is the most successful attempt to date not only to comprehend the protest movement, but also to write it into history ” [6] .
