Biography
Inherited the title of lord of Monaco on November 29, 1604, when his father Hercule was killed by the conspirators. Until 1616, on behalf of Honore, his uncle, Francis Lundy de Valdetar, ruled as regent .
In 1612, Honore, the first of the seniors of Monaco, received the title of prince . Until 1619, it was called "seigneur and prince of Monaco," then only "prince of Monaco."
In 1605, the regent agreed to the deployment of a Spanish garrison in Monaco, which during the Thirty Years War , in 1641, was expelled by the French. On September 14, 1641, Honore and King Louis XIII of France signed the Treaty of Peronn . Under the terms of the treaty, the Spanish protectorate ceased, Monaco became a vassal of the king of France. In compensation for the Neapolitan and Milanese possessions of Grimaldi , which were confiscated by the Spaniards, Louis promised to pay 25,000 ecu annually. In 1659, one of the clauses of the Iberian Treaty stipulated the return of these possessions to the Grimaldi family.
In May 1642 Honoré was granted the titles of peer and duke of Valentinua . For the eldest son, the title of Marquis Bo was granted, and in 1643 - the county of Karlade for the eldest grandson. Honore later abandoned peerage, receiving the duchy of Lanti as compensation.
In compensation for the Order of the Golden Fleece , which he was deprived of by the Spaniards, May 22, 1642 Honore was awarded the French orders of the Holy Spirit and St. Michael .
Honore reconstructed the princely palace in Monaco , decorating it with paintings, other works of art and elegant furniture. In 1640, the first of the rulers of Monaco began to coin its own coin.
He was married to Hippolyta Trivulzio , with whom he had one son - . Since the son died in 1651, his grandson Louis became heir to Honore.
