Geography
The Ushtulu Valley is located 25 km from the village of Verkhnyaya Balkaria behind the border outpost of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia .
Flora and Fauna
In the gorge Ushtulu you can see the tour , the red-winged stenolaz , the lamb fingerboard , which disappeared in Western Europe. The vegetation is represented by pine, birch, maple, hazel, sea buckthorn, barberry, juniper, wild rose and wild raspberries. In the tract there are sources of mineral water.
Infrastructure
Until the 1990s, the Ushtulu tract was popular with Soviet and foreign climbers. Passing the valley, the route to Georgia passed through the Gzevzeck pass. A hospital with healing narzan baths was built here, and in the Shelter "North" tourists stopped to gain strength before passing the pass. However, with the collapse of the USSR, the tract was launched; since then only border guards or shepherds have appeared here, grazing herds of cows and sheep. Over time, the road leading to the valley eroded. It became impossible to get to these places by transport. In 2010, private patrons became interested in the restoration of the road, who partially repaired it. In 2013, the CBD government allocated money to repair the road, in October of the same year the Urvan-Ushtulu highway was restored [2] : asphalt allowed, the asphalt was laid, metal chippers and concrete fences were installed.
