Shizhu-Tujia Autonomous County

Shizhu-Tujia Autonomous County ( Chinese р 土家土 自治县 , Pinyin : Shízhù Tǔjiāzú zìzhìxiàn ) is an autonomous county of the city ​​of central subordination Chongqing ( PRC ). The county is named after Mount Shizhzhushan ("the mountain of stone pillars"), located in its eastern part.

Geography

Shizhu-Tujia Autonomous County is located in the east of the central part of Chongqing, on the banks of the Yangtze River . The length of the county from west to east is 56.2 km, from north to south 98.3 km, the county covers an area of ​​3 012.51 km². The relief of the county consists of mountainous landscapes.

The territory of 1,940.4 km² (64.4%) is occupied by a part of the county located at an altitude of over 1000 meters above sea level. At an altitude of 500 to 1000 meters there is an area of ​​885.1 km² (29.4%), below 500 meters it occupies an area of ​​187 km² (6.2%). The relative height of the county is 1815.1 meters above sea level, the highest point has a height of 1 934.1 m, the lowest point is 119 meters.

History

Under the Qing Empire, the Shizhu Commissariat (石 砫 厅) was established in these places.

When the Republic of China was formed after the Xinhai Revolution , in 1913 the territory subordinate to the Commissariat was transformed into Shizhu County (石 砫 县)

In 1959, in the official spelling of the county’s name, the second character was changed from 砫 to 柱. In 1983, Shizhu County was transformed into Shizhu-Tujia Autonomous County of Sichuan .

In 1997, the county was transferred under the jurisdiction of Chongqing.

Population

Representatives of such national minorities as Miao , Tujia , Mongols and Huizu live in the county.

The county is divided into 17 villages and 15 volosts.
