Career
Jakub Kovarzh began his career in 2002 in his hometown of Pisek . From there, in 2005 he transferred to the junior team České Budějovice , for which he played for the next two years. In 2006, he was selected at the NHL Draft in the fourth round under a total 109 number by the Philadelphia Flyers team. Since 2007, he played for the Ontario Hockey League Oshawa Generals and Winsor Spitfires teams. In the 2008/09 season, he returned to České Budějovice and played a total of 23 games in the Extra League for the team, thereby helping to save the club from relegation to the first league.
2009/10 season Kovarzh spent alternately in České Budějovice and in a lease in the club of the second division Tabor. In the 2010/11 season, he played 58 games for České Budějovice (52 in the regular season and 6 in the playoffs).
In January 2013, he extended the contract for two years with České Budějovice, but in May of that year, using the clause in the contract, he moved to the KHL , signing an agreement for two years with Avtomobilist . After three seasons in Yekaterinburg, in 2016 due to a conflict with the head coach of Avtomobilist Andrei Razin, he moved to Cherepovets Severstal . Having played one season at Severstal, he returned to Avtomobilist.
On January 20, 2019, Yakub Kovarzh took part in the KHL all-star match in the Kharlamov division.
January 23, 2019 Kovarzh set a KHL record for the number of victories in one season for goalkeepers. Having defended to “zero” in a duel with Chelyabinsk “ Tractor ”, he won 34 victories in the 41st match. The previous achievement belonged to the Finnish goalkeeper Carry Rameau (33 wins in 44 matches). Following the results of the 2018/19 KHL regular season, Kovarzh played 50 matches, having gained 38 victories in them.
