Biography

Nikolai Trubyatchinsky was born in 1925 in Leningrad into the family of a famous scientist, a professor at Leningrad State University Nikolai Nikolaevich Trubyatchinsky. During the siege of Leningrad he was the junior commander of the Komsomolsk fire regiment of the Oktyabrsky district. In February 1943 he was drafted into the army and sent to study at the Higher Military Hydrometeorological Institute. Red Army (VVGMIK) , which he graduated in 1947.

In 1947–1961 NN Trubyatchinsky served in the army as a hydrograph engineer and senior lecturer. In 1961, he came under a massive reduction in the personnel of the Soviet Army and was early retired to the reserve in the rank of lieutenant colonel.

In 1961, he resigned from the post of director of the Sennoy Market in Leningrad and agreed to work as an ordinary employee in the department of geophysics at the Research Institute of Geophysics (Arctic Research Institute of Geology). He stood at the origins of the creation of the Polar High-latitude Air Geophysical Expedition (PVVGE), established in accordance with the top secret Resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers on conducting marine gravimetric surveys to introduce amendments to the trajectory of nuclear ballistic missiles aimed at the United States [1] . From December 1961 to May 1962 he participated in oceanographic research in the Atlantic under the program of military hydrography on the Krusenstern sailboat [2] .

In 1962 he headed the Integrated Marine Geophysical Party, which conducted geological and geophysical research in the Atlantic Ocean. Based on materials from trips to the Atlantic, Trubyatchinsky prepared and in 1963 defended his thesis on the topic “Study of the structure of the water column by methods of applied geophysics”. Until 1972, he worked at NIIGA as the head of the sector and the responsible executor of several research projects related to the study of the geological structure of the seabed by methods of electrical and magnetic exploration.

In 1972, NIIGA was transformed into NPO Sevmorgeo with research and production expeditions. Nikolai Nikolayevich was appointed head of the newly created Integrated Marine Arctic Geological and Geophysical Expedition (CMAE) . KMAGE had neither specialists, nor offices, nor ships, nor technical means for conducting geological and geophysical studies in the Barents, White and Kara Seas. NN Trubyatchinsky for several months was able to organize the activities of CMAH, which already in 1973 conducted the first marine work on six ships.

In 1975, at the suggestion of N. N. Trubyatchinsky, the first works of KMAGE in the Atlantic Ocean were carried out. In the future, the expedition began to conduct marine work year-round: in summer and autumn in the Arctic seas, in winter and spring in the oceans. The expedition, led by Trubyatchinsky, noted its first five-year anniversary with the compilation and transfer to the USSR Ministry of Geology of an album of identified oil and gas promising areas in the Barents and Kara Seas, including the North Gulyaevskaya, the North Kildinsky, Murmansk, Kharasavey Sea, the Leningrad Sea. All these areas are currently oil and gas fields.

In subsequent years, under the leadership of N. N. Trubyatchinsky KMAGE (since 1979, MAGE), it successfully developed and implemented a number of state programs for studying the seas of the Arctic, Antarctic and the World Ocean. In 1981, N. N. Trubyatchinsky was awarded the Order “Badge of Honor” for services to the development of the Arctic.

In the summer of 1987, as a result of the intrigues of local party structures, N. N. Trubyatchinsky was removed from his post and later worked in the Murmansk Research Institute Morgeofizika.

In the mid-1990s, Trubyatchinsky and his wife emigrated to her relatives in Israel , where in 2001 he died of a heart attack . He was buried in the Alternative cemetery of the city of Beer Sheva.

Memory

The scientific vessel of the Marine Geological Prospecting Expedition (MAGE) was named in his honor [3] .

Scientific Works

  • Thesis for the degree of the first degree “Study of the structure of the water mass by methods of applied geophysics”

Km in the northern part of the Barents Sea, the mountain in Antarctica [4] , and the research vessel “Nikolai Trubyatchinsky” [5] as part of the scientific fleet of the Arctic Marine Geological Expedition Expedition (MAGE) were named after him. .

And the famous bard and scientist Alexander Gorodnitsky dedicated the song "Lieutenant Colonel Trubyatchinsky" to him [6] [7] .
