History
Odessa Cement Plant began its work in 1965. Odessa region is far from the industrialized areas of the country, so the plant was built in order to meet the local demand for cement.
On September 8, 1965, rotary kiln No. 1 was launched, and in November 1966, rotary kiln No. 2 began its work. In 1966, cement production amounted to 165.5 thousand tons.
The plant continued to increase production capacity, and in 1971 the design capacity of 320 thousand tons was reached.
Initially, the field of raw materials - limestone and clay - was located 2 km from the plant.
Elizavetovsky quarry cement raw material was developed in 1973. It was located 40 km from the plant, and mining equipment was moved there. In 1986, a private branch from Karyernaya station was put into operation, which made it possible to transport raw materials by rail. After the depletion of deposits, land reclamation and preparation of farmland was carried out.
The construction of a drying department for slag in 1976 with bulk storage made it possible to start the production of new cement - sulphate-resistant slag-portland cement - and at the same time to increase industrial output to 360 thousand tons.
In 1986, a 18-km-long railway line from Karyernaya station to Karpovo station was built, which ensured the delivery of raw materials to the plant by rail with their own dump turntables. [one]
In May 1990, the plant hosted the 15th All-Union Conference "Basics of improving the efficiency of cement production and quality control". [one]
In May 2005, the plant was acquired by a Portuguese company (C + PA, Cimento e Produtos Associados, SA).
During their stay in Odessa, the Portuguese have invested about 40 million euros in Ukrainian assets. Due to this, its capacity increased from 360 thousand to 550 thousand tons per year. [2]
Current State
In 2011, the Swiss company Jura-Cement-Fabriken, part of the Irish construction holding Cement Roadstone Holdings ( CRH ), bought 51% of the plant’s shares. By the end of 2014, it is planned to acquire the remaining shareholding and the Odessa Cement Plant will be fully transferred to the ownership of CRH.
CRH Group has offices in 35 countries of the world and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of building materials.
Now Odessa Cement Plant does not produce clinker, which supplies Kamyanets-Podilsky cement plant [3] .
The products of Cement LLC were used for significant infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, including the Southern and Ilyichevsk sea ports, the Odessa region, the NSC Olimpiysky, Kiev.
