Biography
Mikhail Manakin was born on November 12, 1924 in the village of Dvortsy (now the Dzerzhinsky district of the Kaluga region ). After graduating from seven grades of the school and the school of factory apprenticeship, he worked at the factory. In January 1942, Manakin went to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and was sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. In 1943 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses [1] .
By September 1943, Lieutenant Mikhail Manakin commanded a platoon of machine gunners of the 32nd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 12th Guards Rifle Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On the night of September 28-29, 1943, Manakin’s platoon crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Glushets, Loyevsky District, Gomel Oblast, Belorussian SSR , after which it captured and held a bridgehead on its western shore. Under the leadership of Manakin, a platoon repulsed 3 German counterattacks, destroying more than 30 enemy soldiers and officers and holding out until the main forces crossed [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for “exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, Lieutenant Mikhail Manakin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal The Star ” [1] .
After the war, Manakin continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1949 he graduated from the Higher Officer School, in 1955 - the Military Academy of Logistics and Transport , in 1966 - the Military Academy of the General Staff . He served in senior positions in the Logistics Directorates of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany and a number of Soviet military districts. In 1988, with the rank of lieutenant general, Manakin was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Moscow . He died on March 24, 2009, was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
Honorary Citizen of Kaluga . He was also awarded the Order of the October Revolution , the Red Banner , World War I 1st degree, two orders of the Patriotic War 2nd degree, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the 3rd degree Service for the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR, a number of medals [1] .
