At the Olympics in Sydney, Alexander took the 6th place in rowing in a canoe double for 500 meters and the 4th place in rowing for 1000 meters with Alexander Kostoglod . At the next Games, Kovalev won bronze and silver with Kostoglod in canoeing for 500 and 1000 meters [1] .
